"Eggs" by Patricia Terrell-O'Neal

Metro Gallery presents “Egg Paintings,” by Patricia Terrell-O’Neal, May 5 through June 27, in the lobby of the Reno City Hall, located at 1 East First Street in downtown Reno.

A Southern California artist whose work has shown and is collected internationally, Terrell-O’Neal boasts a career that spans some three decades. It was while in the Yucatan at an open market that she was inspired to create the series of paintings featured in this exhibition.
“I was struck by the sight of the local eggs. They were large with thin shells and the light reflected colors particular to that area. Some even appeared to have a delicate pink cast, some had a slight hint of blue. There were various shades of cream to tan, and all seemed enhanced by the locale.”

After a six-year stint of working on a series of paintings inspired by Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein,” these egg paintings provided a welcome change of pace.
“For me, the eggs provide a relief, a means of clearing the head, heart, soul, and finding something outside myself to dwell on to make mainifest through painting, an icon that is a symbol of creativity itself.”

Terrell-O’Neal holds an MFA from the New York Academy of Art and has studied at the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto and the Laguna Beach School of Art in California.

Metro Gallery is funded by the City of Reno Arts and Culture Commission and is managed by Sierra Arts. It is open to the public Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m to 5 p.m.
