Sierra Arts Foundation’s Music 1.2.1. Program, an arm of our 35-year-old Arts In Education program, provides affordable, professional, in-school private music lessons in guitar, piano and string instruments for students.
Music 1.2.1. teachers are classically trained, professional musicians with a minimum of 15 years teaching and performance experience. Instruction is tailored to the age, temperament and skill level of each child. Lessons are held on campus during school hours, saving parents the inconvenience of scheduling and cost of transportation.
The weekly 30-minute private lessons continue throughout the school year. Students perform an end-of-the-year concert. Cost per lesson is $22.50. Parents may pay by mail, or online using our convenient, secure online payment system.
Early musical training helps develop brain areas involved in language and reasoning, as well as spatial intelligence (the ability to perceive the world accurately and to form mental pictures of things). Students of the arts learn to think creatively and to solve problems by imagining various solutions; and recent studies show that students who study the arts achieve higher grades in high school and are more successful on standardized tests such as the SAT.
Guitars and violins are available for rent. For more details or information about the program, please contact Steve Pfister, Sierra Arts Music 1.2.1. Program Manager, at 775.329.2787, extension 108 or by email at steve@sierra-arts.org.
